Come crash with panache at the Ute R/C Annual Balloon Bash! Balloons are tied down about 6 to 10 feet from the ground using thread. Pop the balloons with your airplane to score. For obvious reasons, this is a bit more difficult with pusher-prop-style aircraft. Some people try with needles taped to the leading edge of the wing. And I don't think anybody has ever attempted this event with a helicopter yet.
As always, a light lunch is provided, and this event is free if you have an AMA card and make it to the field on time. If you show up at the front gate on time and show an entering member your AMA card, you're welcome to fly with us. Just make sure you let us know you're a visitor so someone can unlock the gate to let you out!

Woo Woo!
I won today, and -- bizarrely -- I did so on a ParkZone Stryker. It's a pusher-prop, and I still managed to pop a balloon. I hit the thread and the balloon swung down into the prop. But "hits" are counted if you hit the balloon and not the prop... but if you bust the balloon, you get the point no matter how you hit it! I won a $20 gift certificate to Home Depot. Good times. Runner-up was Mike Passey, who's balloon-bust was only disqualified because his plane was on the ground when it popped the balloon.
Winds got high by noon, so there weren't many people willing to brave it once sustained winds were over 15MPH.
